Some 100 kilometers from Porto lies the beautiful Douro Valley, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2001. This region produces the world-renowned fortified Port wines, and also, the highly regarded Douro wines. The endless fields terraced with vineyards, fruit and olive trees, surrounded by stone walls on steep mountain slopes, give this wine region a breathtakingly unique appearance. The valley is named after the Douro River that meanders through it. During the tour you will visit centuries-old quintas, as the wine producers are called. The steep vineyards are predominantly composed of schist, soil that retains both the heat and the much-needed water in the long summers.
Also, you will taste wines and get a close look at the vineyards along the banks of the river. Around noon there will be time for lunch in a traditional restaurant in the valley. This tour is operated by a trusted, local partner of Be Porto.
